Preliminary Task 1 Script, Sound and Talent Planning

Character treatment

The main character in our film (Jack), he is portrayed as a cliché soft and weak nerd. He will wear glasses to symbolize that classic nerdy look. His intentions will change after he gets bet up by the bullies, he will turn from a soft spirited person to a person of much anger and hatred. As we can see that he browses for guns hinting towards a school shoot to strike back at his bullies and maybe others.

At the start of this film there is a cut to black where we will be layering in sound effects from Youtube. We will be using panting, and running footsteps from Youtube as this is our first Media production we will want to keep the effects simple and try to focus on more important elements for the film. We will need to use the audio mics that our school has supplied us with to record the voice of the sister catching character one browsing for guns. We will also try to use the mics in the bully chase scene so the bully's voices and their footsteps sound more realistic and can be perfectly timed so it doesn't look fake and unprofessional. This short film doesn't rely on a lot of dialogue so we will not have to put a lot of attention into the sound aspect of this film but into the visual and editing aspects to bring this film alive. Talent-

For our main character, we want to go for a character that looks like the typical "nerdy" sixteen-year-old teen. We will want someone that is not very tall and not very muscular to show signs of vulnerability. Our inspiration is something like this:

For our bullys we will need people who are tall and scary looking. We need a contrast between a shorter and weaker characters to bigger and more powerful characters.

We need to see a side of weakness to the nerdy characters. We will be using three bullies to ensure that our main 'nerdy' character is completely outnumbered and therefore portrayed as vulnerable to the audience. This will add to the verisimilitude of our film as it is highly likely that he will not outrun or win against three stronger built people.

The contrast between our main character and the bullies will be similar to this:

However, to add some individuality to our film and differentiate it from most existing films we will be using a strong, well built girl as our 'Main Bully.' This will be meeting our representation of gender as usually women are portrayed as the weaker and vulnerable characters, however, here it will be the reverse. To ensure, however, that the movie is still realistic we will be making her two supporting bullies males, also strong and tall. This will enhance the plot as the 'baddie' is a girl, supported by boys.

This will be our 'Main Bully:'

• Her name is Eshloe Roberts and she is 19yrs old. She is also a former student from City Impact Church School and was very interested in helping us out. She is about 5ft7- reasonably tall for a girl, and has a well built physique due to her love for sport. She is also a talented actor which will enable us to have a higher quality end result.

These will be our two supporting male bullies:

• Both these characters are members of 'Sensational Studios', Christian Percy and Jeremiah Fowler, and will therefore already be on set and available. We chose them as our bullies as both complement each other to add intimidation to the group of bullies- One being really tall (about 6ft) and the other being very muscular and also respectably tall. These features will add together to form a well rounded, intimidating group who will greatly contrast our smaller, skinnier vulnerable character being bullied.
